It is so hard to believe that the year is coming to an end! I have had such an INCREDIBLE adventure this year with my firsties, and I am hanging on to every last minute with them! Our annual end of the year field trip is coming up this week and we have been busily preparing for what to expect during our time away from school.
We have been reading and rereading our new social story, (Click on the cover for a link back to my store) which explains all the things we can expect to happen on a trip away from school.
We have used social stories a great deal this year, and my students absolutely LOVE them! It has seemed to take the apprehension and fear out of so many of the "big events" in the lives of my first graders, that honestly, in the past, have turned into huge behavior and management issues. We have used them for fire drills, assemblies, lunch room behaviors and more. ( I will be blogging about these more in the coming weeks...so stay tuned!)
Besides preparing my students, I wanted to prepare myself and my chaperones, so that we could be relaxed on the trip and enjoy the students. So I created this Organization Kit that has all the things you will need to help you stay cool, calm, and collected!

So... I think we are ready...oh...did I mention we are going on a wagon to feed HUGE animals up close and personal??

I am so excited for you to begin this journey! I feel so blessed to have shared so many years as your colleague and friend! You are amazing in all that you do, so I know this endeavor will be an amazing one as well! I look forward to each day that I get to share "across the hall" from you! I am so glad our paths in life have crossed! I can't wait for the field trip tomorrow! I know we will share a few laughs along the way! I also know for sure the kids are so prepared thanks to your awesome story! It made getting them ready so easy! So here's to another fun filled day with lots of big animals!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much friend! Your support means so much to me! It is nice to know that the laughter and giggles only increases with the years! (Thank goodness!)
DeleteI love your social stories! I project them in my classroom instead of printing them. On days when it seems like kids have forgotten the rules, it's great to pull one of these up and reread! Thanks for sharing such a much needed resource!!! XXOO
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear Mrs. Yerty and her firsties are loving these social stories! My firsties are too! Our social story basket is one of the most used baskets in the library!
